Privacy Policy

You can use Tane without creating an account.

Without an account, your cigarette log, usage sessions, goals, cost details and app settings are stored locally on your device. This data is not sent to Tane's servers.

Data from use without an account may be removed from your device when you clear the app's data or uninstall the app.

You can optionally sign in with Apple, Google or an e-mail Magic Link.

When you sign in to an account, cloud sync is turned on. The following data may then be stored on Supabase infrastructure, linked to your account:

• your cigarette log and the time of each entry
• the start and end of usage sessions
• pack price and the number of cigarettes in a pack
• the currency you chose
• the daily limit you set
• the time your day ends and your app language
• the sign-in details needed for the account to work

Some app preferences and on-device state are kept only on your device and are not synced to the cloud.

Tane does not use passwords.

E-mail sign-in works through a Magic Link; Apple and Google sign-in go through those providers.

Supabase Auth is used for sign-in and for managing user accounts.

If you choose Sign in with Apple, the e-mail address provided by Apple and, only when provided, your name may be linked to your account.

Synced data is used only to provide Tane's core features: showing your log, working out your past usage, showing goal and cost information and syncing your data across devices.

Tane shows no ads, does not sell your data and does not use it for ad targeting.

To improve Tane, anonymous usage statistics are collected through PostHog from version 1.0.3 onward. They help us understand which features are used and where the app gets in the way.

What is sent:

• that the app was installed, opened or updated
• which screens were opened
• that an entry was added, edited or deleted (only that it happened, not the entry itself)
• the currency and language chosen during setup, and the chosen day-change time
• the sign-in method (Apple, Google or e-mail), and that you signed out or deleted your account
• that the request to rate the app was shown
• technical details such as device model, operating system and app version, device language and time zone

Each event is sent with the time it happened and a random identifier created on your device. This identifier is not linked to your account, e-mail address or name.

Your cigarette counts, entry times, pack price and account details are not part of these statistics. Your IP address is not stored and your location is not derived.

The statistics are stored on PostHog's servers in the European Union. Uninstalling the app also removes the random identifier from your device.

You can turn these statistics off at any time with the "Share anonymous usage data" switch under Profile / Settings → Privacy.

Tane relies on a small number of third-party services.

Supabase provides the infrastructure for user accounts, sign-in, cloud data and server-side operations.

Apple and Google are used for sign-in if you choose those methods.

PostHog (EU servers) is used for the anonymous usage statistics described above.

These services may have their own privacy policies and data practices.

Cloud data linked to your account may be kept for as long as your account is active or until you delete your account.

Data from use without an account is not stored on a server by Tane and exists only on that device.

You can permanently delete your account from within Tane.

When your account is deleted, your Supabase Auth user account and the Tane cloud data linked to it are permanently deleted. This includes your cigarette log, usage sessions and synced settings.

This cannot be undone.

If you signed in with Apple, we also try to revoke Apple's authorization on the server during deletion.

Deleting your account may not automatically delete local data stored on your device from use without an account.

Creating an account and using cloud sync are optional. You can use Tane without an account.

You can request deletion of your account or data, or ask for information about our privacy practices.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable data protection law.

This Privacy Policy may be updated if the way Tane handles data or its features change. For significant changes, the "Last updated" date on this page is also updated.
